At the scheduled time, the group will meet at the Iquitos pier to kick off this tour of the neighbourhood of Belén, on the shores of the Itaya River.
To start, you'll be taken to the Belén market, the perfect place to learn all about the food customs and the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of this Iquitos neighbourhood. Afterward, we'll walking along the Pasaje Paquito, a famous street known for its exotic products and natural medicine.
Depending on the season, we'll either embark on a walking tour or a canoe tour along the Amazonian Venice. It is named like this because of its traditional architecture consisting mainly of wooden houses built on stilts above the water. They're sure to surprise you!
To really put the cherry on top of the experience, you can decide on the day of the tour whether or not you'd like to go to another area of the city that's famous for piranha fishing.
Finally, after 4 hours, we'll return to the starting point and conclude this tour of the neighbourhood of Belén.
Itinerary Changes
Please note that the tour is carried out on foot or by canoe, depending on the season, when the Itaya River rises. From November to June, the houses float on the river, and we'll sail on a traditional canoe. During the dry season, from July to October, the area is transitable, and we can explore the neighborhood on foot.
