Monkey Island Day Trip

What I liked most, besides the contact with the Amazon River and the wildlife we saw, was the kind and professional treatment of our guide, Sarai. I am very grateful for her attention and her excellent work.

Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in the centre of Iquitos and head to the Nanay pier. There, we'll board a boat and embark on an unforgettable journey down the Amazon River. Are you ready to spend a day surrounded by nature?

We'll sail peacefully along the Itaya and Amazon rivers, a perfect route to discover all the secrets of these waterways and admire the rich flora and fauna they contain. Our first stop will be at a local breeding centre, where we'll see different native species such as black and white caimans, aquatic turtles, giant paiches and the imposing Victoria Regias, the largest water lilies in the world.

We'll return to the boat and head to our next stop. There, we'll take a walk through the jungle until we reach the home of a native tribe of the Yagua ethnic group. Its inhabitants will teach us their dances, music, language and customs, so that we can learn about their way of life.

After this unforgettable cultural immersion, we'll continue our journey along the Amazon River towards Monkey Island. Hungry yet? We'll satisfy our appetite on board with a traditional meal consisting of 'Juane Amazónico', a dish made with rice, chicken, olives and egg wrapped in a bijao leaf, accompanied by salads, tropical fruits and water.

Feeling refuelled, we'll reach the incredible Monkey Island, officially known as Isla Rolling, a project created for the care and recovery of numerous species of primates before returning them to their natural habitat.

There, we'll disembark and explore this refuge while learning all about the species of monkeys that are cared for daily on the island. We'll also interact with them and even feed them. You'll fall in love with these animals!

In the final stretch of the tour and back at the starting point, you can enjoy the Amazonian sunset and, if we're lucky, we may even see the iconic pink dolphins swimming in the river.

Finally, we'll return to Iquitos and end the day trip at your hotel after 9 hours of experiencing Peruvian nature.
