Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour
Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Katowice. We'll drive for around 1 hour to get to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where some of the most horrific acts in contemporary history took place.
The site is made up of numerous different camps. We'll begin our tour by visiting Auschwitz I, the concentration camp initially built to house political prisoners, and later more of the people targeted by the Nazis, including Jews, homosexuals, Romani people and the intelligentsia. At the entrance to the camp, we'll see the inscription reading "Arbeit macht frei". Do you know what it means? We'll then see the tiny cells in which the prisoners were forced to live and the areas where they were forced to work.
Our tour will continue to another of the camps, Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the extermination camp where so many people were sent to their deaths. We'll see the remains of the crematoriums and gas chambers which were demolished by the German troops before leaving to hide the evidence.
The tour will come to an end back in Katowice at 3 pm.
