Notting Hill Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet outside The Sun in Splendour pub on Portobello Road. As Notting Hill's oldest pub, dating back to the 1850s, it's the perfect place to kick off our journey through this vibrant neighbourhood.
Our first stop will introduce you to some of Banksy's original artwork, including the famous "Made You Look" graffiti. Here, our guide will share the fascinating stories behind these iconic pieces. Next, we'll stroll past the homes of famous residents, starting with George Orwell's former house at 22 Portobello Road, marked with a commemorative blue plaque. We'll also see where supermodel Claudia Schiffer once lived and hear about Audrey Hepburn’s connection to the local Mercury Theatre.
As we walk, we'll learn about the history and significance of the Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s largest street festival, and how it continues to shape the area's vibrant culture today. We'll continue with a visit to the bustling Portobello Road Market, one of the world's most famous street markets. Browsing the lively stalls, we'll see a mix of antiques, art, fashion, and delicious food.
Of course, no tour of Notting Hill would be complete without a nod to the iconic 1999 film of the same name. We'll visit the legendary blue door from the movie and stop by the Notting Hill Bookshop that inspired the film's travel shop. We'll also see Michael Caine's flat from "The Italian Job". Fans of "Paddington" will recognise Alice's Antique Shop, which served as Mr. Gruber's shop in the films.
Wandering through Notting Hill, we'll see the charming pastel-coloured houses of Denbigh Terrace, as well as some of the city's most exclusive properties, showing us the luxurious side of this neighbourhood. We'll also delve into the history of the Portobello Gold, once a favourite hub of music legends like The Clash and The Sex Pistols, and discover its connection to George Orwell.
As we wind through Notting Hill's picturesque streets, we'll encounter more fascinating landmarks, including Sir William Crookes’ blue plaque at Kensington Park Gardens, Pink Floyd’s link to The Tabernacle, and The Electric Cinema—one of the UK's oldest working cinemas.
Finally, after a total of 2 hours, we'll bring the tour to an end at The Tabernacle.
