Los Angeles Whale Watching
Whale Watching in Los Angeles
Did you know that California is one of the best places in the United States to watch whales? On this boat trip, we'll take you to observe gray, humpback, and blue whales in their natural habitat. The chances of seeing them are quite high! Depending on the season, you can spot one species or another, as these animals migrate to both the north and south.
During the booking process for your whale-watching experience in Los Angeles, you can choose between the following options:
Tour from San Pedro (2-2.5 Hours)
We'll sail the waters of the Pacific Ocean, seeking the different types of whales that swim in this natural environment. If you enjoy the activity in winter or spring, it's more probable that you'll spot stunning gray whales. If you take part in the activity in summer or fall, the blue whale will be the star of your trip.
As we sail in search of these magnificent mammals, you can observe other species, like dolphins and sea lions. On this tour from San Pedro, we'll pass by iconic sites in Los Angeles, such as the lighthouse, West Harbour, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Palos Verdes, and Terminal Island.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point 2 to 2.5 hours later.
Tour from Long Beach (2 Hours)
If you prefer to watch whales starting from Long Beach, this is the best option. Just like we previously described, we'll go in search of the blue whale, the gray whale, and the humpback whale. However, on this boat ride, we'll also sail next to the main points of interest in Long Beach, like Long Beach Breakwater, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, and the THUMS Islands.
With your camera full of photos, we'll return to the starting point 2 hours later.
Which is the Best Season to See Whales?
The best season of the year to see gray or humpback whales in Los Angeles is from January to April. If you want to spot blue whales or fin whales, we recommend this activity from May to September.
If you want to enjoy this whale-watching activity from San Pedro or from Long Beach, you can observe the migration of gray whales from December to May. This is the perfect moment to see how these animals cross the southern coast of California, from the Bering Sea to the Chukchi Sea. From June to November, blue whales tend to be very close to the coast.
However, during the whole year, it's possible to spot orcas, humpback whales, minke whales, and fin whales, among many other marine species. Don't miss it!
