Free Tour of Karnak
Tour Details
We'll meet at the designated time at the main entrance to the Karnak Temple. Here, we'll begin this fascinating visit to one of the biggest and most spectacular sanctuaries in Egypt. Ready to uncover all its secrets?
As soon as we step foot inside, we'll be greeted by an impressive path flanked by sphinxes with ram heads, which represent the god Amon. This ceremonial avenue connected Karnak with the Luxor Temple and served as a processional street during the most important celebrations.
Our first stop will be at the first Pylon, the monumental entrance gate to the temple, built by the pharaohs of the Thirtieth Dynasty of Egypt. As we pass under it, we'll be met by the Great Patio, where we'll learn how different pharaohs, for over 2000 years, expanded and transformed this astonishing religious complex.
Next, we'll access the Great Hypostyle, the most emblematic area of the temple. This huge space has 134 enormous columns decorated with hieroglyphs and carvings. As we walk amongst them, we'll discuss the site's complex architecture and its importance to the Egyptian religion. It's simply spectacular!
Afterwards, we'll head to the Precinct of Amon-Ra, the spiritual nucleus of Karnak. Here, priests would conduct offerings and rituals in honour of the god Amon. We'll uncover the secrets of these ceremonies and their impact on the lives of the ancient Egyptians.
Lastly, we'll make our way to the Obelisk of Hatshepsut, one of the tallest structures in the whole temple. We'll get to know the history of this powerful female pharaoh, her legacy, and the impact of the obelisks on Egyptian architecture.
After a total of 2 hours, we'll conclude this free tour of the Karnak Temple Complex by saying our goodbyes at the entrance.
