Maastricht Free Tour
Tour Details
Located on the shores of the Meuse River, very close to the Belgium city of Liège and the German town of Aachen, the capital of Limburg is a true crossroads. To discover its charm, we'll meet at Maastrichter Brugstraat Street, number 2 to begin this free tour of Maastricht.
After a short introduction, we'll kick off our tour by walking toward the Markt square. At the site in the heart of the city, you'll find Stadhuis, the Maastricht City Hall. This beautiful 17th-century building was built when the area was part of the Spanish Netherlands.
Our next stop will be at Dominicanen Boekhandel, a popular bookstore found inside an ancient medieval church. Very close to this peculiar store, you'll see Vrijthof, a square where you'll see the Basilica of Saint Servatius and the Sint-Janskerk (Saint John Church) from outside.
You'll learn about the history of both of these churches before heading to the historic building of Maastricht University. From here, we'll continue our tour toward the Bisschopsmolen, one of the oldest windmills in the Netherlands.
After discovering the origins of this landmark, known as the “Bishop's Mill,” we'll stroll toward the Basilica of Our Lady, a medieval church where we'll wrap up this 2-hour free tour.
