Laguna Espejo Hiking Excursion
Laguna Espejo Hiking Excursion
We'll start this hiking route from Malalcahuello at 7:30 am at Kilometer 0 of the Lonquimay Volcano Crossing. Ready to discover the landscapes of La Araucanía?
We'll embark on a hike extending 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) in total. The route, which presents a medium difficulty, will pass through several mountain stretches ranging from 1,720 to 2,554 meters (5,643 to 8,379 feet) in altitude. Throughout the route, of course, we'll make several stops to quietly enjoy the stunning Chilean landscapes.
First, we'll cross a wooded area where we'll see native botanical species such as araucarias and ñirres. After leaving these forest areas behind, our trekking route takes us to the eastern face of the Sierra Nevada glacier. Here we'll find the famous Laguna Espejo, which translates to 'Mirror Lake.'
While we enjoy the reflection of the mountains on the lake, we'll snack on an energy bar, a candy, and an isotonic drink. If you think this last landscape was impressive, wait until you see the waterfalls that pour into the lagoon! Among these falls, the Salto Punta Negra waterfall stands out.
From Laguna Espejo, we'll walk back to the meeting point, arriving at 4:30 pm.
