Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Manizales and drive to the Department of Risaralda in northwest Colombia.
Our tour will begin with 2-hour 30-minute jeep ride to Quinchía, the first village we'll visit. This picturesque spot, located between hills, has an impressive natural and cultural heritage. It was also awarded the title of Most Beautiful Town in Risaralda in 1985.
After visiting this village, we'll enter the Tierras de Xixarca Archaeological Museum, which houses an important collection of unique objects from the Quimbaya civilization. We'll learn about the history of this indigenous group as we work our way through the museum's different rooms.
Next, we'll visit a filigree workshop. Here, we'll see local craftspeople making the typical handicrafts from Quinchía using this goldsmithing technique.
We'll take a break to have a traditional local lunch consisting of one course and a drink. After eating, we'll head to Guática through the landscapes of northern Risaralda.
This town dates back to the year 1638 when it was founded by a group of indigenous people led by the cacique Guática, who gave his name to the settlement. The municipality itself is well-known locally for its silk production. Its community plants mulberry trees and raises worms that produce high quality silk, which is then used in fabric production.
In addition, we'll learn about this locally developed process step by step. You'll also have time to do some shopping before we return to Manizales and drop you back at your hotel at around 4 pm.
Tour without lunch
If you'd prefer to bring your own lunch, then this option is the best one for you. You'll have time to eat your own lunch before the visit to Guática.
