Playa Larga & Fish Cave Cenote Day Trip
Day Trip Details
We’ll begin the day trip by picking you up from your hotel in Matanzas. Once aboard the vehicle, we’ll start a two-hour journey toward Cuba’s southern coast. Let’s go!
On the way, we’ll travel through lush vegetation, lagoons, and bird habitats as we enter the Zapata Swamp National Park. Did you know this is the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean and a true sanctuary for wildlife?
Our first stop will be the Cueva de los Peces (Fish Cave), a cenote more than 70 meters deep, surrounded by fascinating legends. Here, you’ll receive your snorkel gear and have time to swim in its turquoise waters, surrounded by fish, corals, and striking rock formations.
After about 40 minutes in the cave, we’ll head to Playa Larga, nestled in the historic Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs). This beautiful beach invites you to relax on its white sands, swim in the Caribbean, and keep exploring underwater life with your snorkel equipment.
We’ll spend about three hours here before continuing our adventure. Hungry? We’ll enjoy a buffet lunch at a local restaurant with beef, chicken, crab, rice, salads, and one drink included.
With our energy restored, we’ll visit a crocodile breeding center and the Girón Museum. At the first stop, we’ll learn about the preservation of these reptiles at the museum. We’ll revisit the events of the Bay of Pigs Invasion, an important Cuban victory, and the first U.S. imperial defeat in the region.
Finally, we’ll return to your hotel in Matanzas after a total of 12 hours of exploration.
