Housed inside the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, The Last Supper is one of the most famous and studied works of art in the world. Painted by Leonardo da Vinci, it depicts the moment Jesus announces that one of his disciples will betray him.

Background and artistic context

Leonardo painted The Last Supper between 1495 and 1498 using an experimental technique that allowed for greater detail but made the work extremely fragile. Over the centuries, the mural suffered significant deterioration, leading to multiple restoration efforts. Today, it is carefully preserved in a climate-controlled refectory to protect what remains of the original work.
