Day of the Dead Night Tour

  • 33 reviews | 467 travellers
The tour exceeded my expectations, it is really beautiful to learn about the tradition and culture on these dates and it was a very good route option, we had a mishap on the road with a flat tire but they handled it well and it was a success since we did not get to any point with more groups, being such a popular date we had a very close experience with the community and the places visited, the entire itinerary was fulfilled

Day of the Dead Night Tour

“You only die when you've been forgotten, and I'll never forget you.” This phrase from the movie Coco sums up very well how Mexicans feel the night of Día de los Muertos on November 1. Explaining it isn't even close to experiencing it. We'll meet at the indicated time at the Plaza de los Niños Héroes in Morelia to embark on an unforgettable Day of the Dead night tour through the state of Michoacán.

First, we'll travel to the town of Tupátaro, where we'll admire the traditional Day of the Dead altars. We'll see how the living pay tribute to their deceased loved ones, honoring their photographs with candles, skulls and flowers. The next stop will take place in the nearby town of Cuanajo. Here we'll also observe the offerings to the deceased, as well as the offering of the little wooden horse, which takes place in the main square of the town.

After a tour of these altars, from Cuanajo we'll go to Tzurumutaro to visit its cemetery. There we'll observe how the friends and relatives of the dead watch over their loved ones. Contrary to what we may think, the atmosphere of this special night is not one of sadness, but of joy, as the living can meet their loved ones again in a most festive evening, with music and dancing until dawn.

We'll continue our Day of the Dead night tour of Michoacán at the Ucasanastacua pier, where we'll take a boat to the island of Pacanda. Here, we'll have the opportunity to witness various rituals and ceremonies of the night of the dead, traditions that date back to the Purepécha culture.

At the end of the excursion, we'll return by boat to the Ucasanastacua dock and, from there, we'll take you back to the meeting point in Morelia, arriving around 15 hours later.
