History of Madison Square Garden

The current Madison Square Garden was inaugurated in 1968, although the fourth rendition of the venue, with the original having opened in 1879 in a different location.

The arena covers an area of about 818,000 square feet (76,000 square meters) and has a capacity of up to 20,789 spectators, depending on the event.
