Don Diego River Hike + Bird Watching
Activity Details
Bright and early, we'll pick you up at your hotel and set off to the area of Taironaka, the entrance gate to the Don Diego River, a place known for its biodiversity and lush natural landscapes.
Once we reach the river, after approximately 1 hour, the surrounding forest will greet us. Here, we'll begin an exciting hike up the river, which will last about 4 hours, stepping into the heart of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range.
This hiking route will reveal the secrets hidden in this natural paradise. Keep your eyes peeled because along the way, you'll spot an incredible diversity of typical birds from the region. Among the bird species, you'll find scarlet macaws, Caribbean toucans, and sword-billed hummingbirds.
After the hike, we'll embark on a speedboat that will take us to a strategic spot on the river shore. Surrounded by this lush vegetation, we'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch from the Caribbean region. Perfect to revitalize!
After a short break, we'll continue our speedboat ride, sailing all the way to the river's mouth, where the Don Diego River merges with the vast Caribbean Sea. In this spot, where the fresh water mixes with the salt water, you'll have around 1 hour of free time to relax on a paradisiac beach. It's the best way to wrap up the day!
Finally, we'll start our journey back to the starting point, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 10 hours.
