Cave of Hands Day Trip + Hiking
Cave of Hands Day Trip + Hiking
Between 8:30 and 8:45 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Perito Moreno and drive southbound along Argentina's National Route 40. During our road trip, which crosses the province of Santa Cruz from north to south, we'll make several stops so you can admire the incredible views of Caracoles Canyon.
Our journey will end when we pull into the Cave of Hands Visitor Centre. From there, we'll set off on a hiking route through the Pinturas River Canyon, which is located in an area where numerous cave paintings have been found. In these caves, various artistic expressions from prehistoric periods have also been discovered. We'll see how the paintings in these caves depict both humans and animals.
After a 1-hour walk, we'll return to the centre of the Cave of Hands. When we get there, we'll discuss the different theories that experts have proposed about these cave paintings. If you wish, you can also go on an additional route through the Pinturas River Canyon. This 3-mile (5-kilometre) hike is free of charge.
Feeling peckish? We'll get our strength back with lunch at the Visitor Centre. Our lunch menu will include meat and vegetable rolls, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade puddings and assorted herbal teas. After we've had lunch, we'll return to the minibus and head to Caracoles Canyon to set out on another hike. On this hike, we'll also see the striking hills of the Tierras de Colores.
We'll then return to your hotel in Perito Moreno, where we should arrive at 5 pm.
