Southern Tenerife Wine Tour
Tenerife Winery & Vineyard Experience
Once we pick you up from your chosen meeting point in the south of Tenerife, we'll head to Finca Las Margaritas, where you'll learn all about the cultivation of the Canary Islands' most iconic fruit: the banana.
We'll explore the farm and discover how banana farming has been kept alive since ancient times, as well as the different uses of this prized fruit, from gofio to sugar cane honey. After the tour of the banana plantation, we'll sit down for a tasting of these products. Finger-licking good!
Our next stop will be the town of Vilaflor, where we'll visit the Mencey de Chasna winery. We'll uncover the secrets behind the island's wine production and follow up with a tasting of 5 Canarian wines, learning to distinguish the refined nuances that define these drinks.
To complement the tasting, we'll enjoy a delicious spread of some of the best dishes in Canarian cuisine: papas arrugadas with green and red mojo sauce, almogrote toast (a traditional spread from the archipelago), chorizo toast, goat's cheese, and of course, a dessert to round it all off.
After eating, we'll head back to the starting point, wrapping up this 4 to 5-hour tour.

History of Wine in the Canary Islands
In the 14th century, the Canary Islands welcomed the introduction of European vines, courtesy of missionaries predating Spanish colonization. By the mid-16th century, winemaking had burgeoned into a pivotal industry, with British merchants facilitating the export of the renowned sweet Malvasia wine to both Europe and America. Despite enduring challenges such as wars and volcanic disruptions, the Canary Islands sustained their wine trade for an impressive 300-year span.
The narrative took a notable turn in the 1860s with the emergence of the phylloxera vine aphid, which wreaked havoc on European vineyards. A remarkable exception, the Canary Islands remained untouched, safeguarding some of the planet's oldest grapevine varieties.
In the contemporary landscape, particularly in Tenerife, the Islands have garnered acclaim for producing exceptional wines. The absence of grafting, complemented by volcanic soil and diverse microclimates, lends a distinctive quality to wines ranging from crisp whites to robust reds. Across the varied topography of Tenerife, encompassing coastal regions to mountain slopes boasting some of Europe's highest vineyards, the islands' winemaking legacy persists.
Harvest Season
The Canary Islands have one of the longest harvest seasons in the world, lasting from July to November. During these months, the stop at one of the wineries will be replaced by a visit to an aloe vera and fruit farm.
