Tour Details

After meeting at the King Pedro V Monument in Batalha Square, we’ll board a vehicle and leave Porto behind, heading south on a 2-hour journey.

As we move away from the city, the scenery will change into a landscape of gentle hills, whitewashed villages, and olive groves. Our destination? Fátima, one of the most famous Marian shrines in the world.

Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy an approximately 45-minute walk visiting the Chapel of the Apparitions, the iconic Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, with its 15 chapels dedicated to the mysteries of the rosary, and the modern Basilica of the Holy Trinity, one of the largest churches in Europe. Afterwards, you’ll have 1 hour of free time to explore at your own pace.

Next, we’ll take a short 30-minute drive to Batalha. Once there, you’ll have around 1.5-hours minutes of free time for lunch.

Afterwards, we’ll visit a jewel of late Portuguese Gothic architecture, the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória. We’ll explain how it was commissioned by King John I after the victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota. As we pass through its richly decorated portal, we’ll discover its carved stone structure, interlaced vaults, and the Founder’s Chapel, where the monarchs of the House of Aviz are buried. Have you heard of the Unfinished Chapels? These open, roofless chapels are one of the most iconic features of the Batalha Monastery.

After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes of visiting, we’ll set off on a 1.5 hour route to the Church of Our Lady of Amparo in Válega, Ovar. There, we’ll stop for 30 minutes to admire its façade covered in colorful tiles. In shades of blue, yellow, and green, they depict biblical scenes such as the Annunciation, the Coronation of the Virgin, and the Last Supper.

Finally, we’ll return to the original meeting point in Porto, where the tour will end after a total duration of 11.5 hours.
