History

Loro Parque opened its doors to the public in 1972, originally housing a selection of 150 parrots—hence the name, which translates to 'Parrot Park'. Since then, more and more animals have arrived at Loro Parque, with a large selection of animals now calling the zoo home.

In 1994, the park established the Loro Parque Fundación, a foundation centred around the promotion of animal research and conservation.
