Magdalena Island Day Trip for Cruise Passengers
Day Trip Details
When your ship docks at the port of Punta Arenas, we’ll be waiting for you at the iconic green clock at Prat Pier to begin one of the best excursions for cruise passengers. Ready to visit Magdalena Island? Let’s go!
Once everyone has arrived, we’ll board a ferry that will take us to our destination in just 1 hour. We’ll begin our navigation through the Strait of Magellan to reach this island in Chilean Patagonia, famous for hosting a large colony of Magellanic penguins.
When we arrive at this site, declared a Natural Monument, we’ll step onto dry land and follow a walking route to see the penguin colony, where we’ll see thousands of birds in their natural habitat. During the walk, we’ll observe the Magellanic penguins up close and learn about their unique behavior. You’ll fall in love with them and their movements!
We’ll also visit Magdalena Island’s famous lighthouse, inaugurated in 1902 and used by the Chilean Government as a strategic point to guide sailors crossing the Strait of Magellan.
After exploring Magdalena Island, we’ll return to the ferry to make our way back to the port of Punta Arenas. Take a moment to enjoy the views one last time! Finally, upon arriving at Prat Pier, we’ll say goodbye and end this 5-hour-and-45-minute day trip.
