Chimborazo Volcano Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, before sunrise, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Quito. Once we're ready, we'll start an approximately 3-hour journey heading south along the Andean corridor, where majestic peaks rise in alignment. We'll stop for 1 hour on the way so you can grab some breakfast.
We'll continue the road trip and reach the stunning Chimborazo Volcano, which rises up to 20,547 ft (6,263 m), making it Ecuador's tallest mountain. Did you know it's the closest point to the sun because of the Earth's curvature?
We'll reach the Hermanos Carrel refuge, at an altitude of 15,912 ft (4,850 m), where we'll leave our vehicle behind and tie up our hiking shoes. It's time to go! We'll start our hiking route of about 45 minutes toward the Whymper refuge, located 16,732 ft (5,100 m). Every step will show us overwhelming landscapes of vast Andean plains and snow-capped peaks. With a bit of luck, we'll see vicuñas, alpacas, and condors conquering the skies.
After resting for half an hour, we'll start our descent and head to a local restaurant in our vehicle. Here, we'll stop for 1 hour so you can refuel with lunch on your own.
The return trip will take us to the viewpoint of the Laguna de Yambo, an emerald lagoon surrounded by volcanic hills.
After 30 minutes in the viewpoint, we'll hit the road back to Quito. We'll conclude the day trip by dropping you off at your hotel after 12 hours. What a day!
