Quito Free Food Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Mercado Santa Clara, one of the biggest and most traditional markets in the city, to begin our free food tour of Quito. Are you ready to discover the Ecuadorian capital through its flavours?
We'll begin by touring the different sections of the market, from the fresh fruit area to the stalls with natural medicine, dry products and typical foods. Afterwards, you'll have 30 minutes of free time to continue exploring the market at your pace and, if you fancy, to try a dish of encebollado, ceviche, tigrillo, potato locro or fritada. All with authentic local flavours!
Afterwards, we'll take the metro in Quito to the historic centre of the city. There, we'll visit a heritage house where, if you wish, you can participate in a brief coffee tour. During the tour, we'll see the production and roasting process, and you'll enjoy a cup of Ecuadorian high-altitude coffee.
Next, we'll head to a 17th-century mansion to visit a small artisan chocolate factory. Here, we'll learn about the entire cocoa process, from bean to bar, and taste different percentages and flavours made with fine aroma cocoa, one of the most highly valued Ecuadorian varieties in the world. A real treat!
We'll continue our tour at a traditional sweet shop, where you'll discover typical products such as the famous caca de perro, a chocolate and peanut sweet whose name always arouses the curiosity of visitors. You can also try paila ice cream, mistelas, pristiños and empanadas.
To finish on a high note, we'll sample a Quito-style canelazo on the colonial balconies of San Francisco Square, where you can enjoy unbeatable views of the old town.
Finally, we'll say goodbye in this square after a total of between 3 and 3.5 hours of gastronomic experiences in Quito.
