Mosaics of Ravenna Tour
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Tourist Information Point in Ravenna to begin a tour to discover mosaics that are a World Heritage Site. Ready to travel back in time?
Our first stop will be at the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, one of the oldest churches in the city. We'll enter its interior to admire its extraordinary series of mosaics about the life of Christ and the martyrs. Each image you see will immerse you in the spirituality and culture of the Byzantine period!
Next, we'll head to the Basilica of San Vitale, a prime example of primitive Christian art. Its majestic mosaics, including the famous representations of the emperor Justinian and the empress Theodora, will leave you breathless. Did you know they date back to the year 532 A.C.? How impressive!
Afterward, it'll be time to visit the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. After seeing its facade from the outside, we'll step inside to admire its spectacular mosaics, characterized by its use of an intense blue. These angelical figures look like they almost come to life, don't you think?
Our last stop of the tour will be at the Baptistery of Neon, famous for its series of biblical scenes narrated with extraordinary liveliness and chromatic precision. Here, you'll see how these artworks are a testimony to the mosaic masters of Ravenna's skills.
We'll finish our 3-hour tour, and the guide will accompany you to the entrance of the Archiepiscopal Museum. Here, you can continue your visit on your own. Inside, you'll find the Archbishop's Chapel, the last of the five UNESCO monuments included in this tour.
