Private Tour of Rethymno
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Four Martyrs Church to begin this private tour of Rethymno. Ready to explore all the charms of one of the most beautiful cities in Crete? Let's go!
We'll first walk through the old town, entering via the Porta Guora, which marks the boundary of the city's historic district. Throughout this walking tour, we'll uncover the Venetian past of Crete's third-biggest city. Did you know that Rethymno is the city that best preserves its Venetian architecture on the island?
Next, we'll stop in front of the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno, the ancient Saint Francis Basilica. Here, we'll see and speak about the symbols of power with which ancient civilisations left their mark on the city.
We'll continue onto Mikrasiaton Square, dedicated to the refugees of Asia Minor, in the heart of the historical centre. This area has a vibrant atmosphere and houses one of the most emblematic monuments in the city: the Conservatoire, also known as the Neradje Mosque, with its impressive minaret.
Then, we'll wander down the narrow streets and most picturesque neighbourhoods in the old town, until we climb up the Fortezza hill, a place which holds stories about crucial battels, famous pirates, and the arrival of the Ottomans. At the highest point, we'll see the Ibrahim Han Mosque and enjoy beautiful scenic views of the city and its beaches.
Afterwards, we'll continue exploring the rest of the historical centre as we pass by other iconic monuments such as the Rimondi Fountain and the Loggia until we reach the postcard-pretty old venecian port.
At this final point, we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 2.5 hours.
