The Vatican Museum's origins can be traced back to a singular marble sculpture which was purchased and put on display by Pope Julius in 1506—meaning that the origins of the museum go back over 500 years.

Before you visit

We recommend buying a skip-the-queue ticket with Civitatis in advance of your visit to the Vatican Museum to avoid the notoriously long queues. The main entrance to the museums is from St. Peter's Square, which you can get to on Metro line A!
