Samaná Free Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time in front of the Santorino restaurant. After a short introduction and a cup of coffee, we'll walk along the promenade to start this free tour of Santa Bárbara de Samaná.
Our journey begins along the Malecón to admire the bay and the picturesque scenes of the Samaná province capital. The fishermen cleaning their catch of the day, the children playing and the aromas of the restaurants by the sea will tell us about the unique peculiarities of the northern Dominican Republic.
We'll reach the area where the ocean views are even more beautiful as we learn about Samaná's African, European and indigenous heritage. What's more, we'll learn about the struggle to preserve identity, cultural festivals and Afro-Caribbean and religious customs. We'll also visit some local handicraft markets, the perfect place for finding a souvenir!
Next, we'll reach the evangelical church of Saint Peter, known by the locals as La Chorcha. We'll stop in front of it to look at its wooden facade painted in pastel colors and tell you the history behind its construction, carried out after the abolition of slavery.
When we stand in front of this building, you're sure to be surprised by its delicate Victorian-style architecture, and you'll gain a deep respect for its significance. Undoubtedly, this corner of Samaná marks a before and after in Dominican society.
Finally, after an hour of sightseeing, we'll end the tour at Pueblo Príncipe square, in front of the Santa Bahía Kitchen & Bar restaurant.
