On this day trip from San Salvador, we'll discover the natural beauty of Cerro Verde National Park, visit Santa Ana, and you can bathe in the hot springs of Lake Coatepeque. A truly comprehensive itinerary!

Day Trip Details

After picking you up from your hotel in San Salvador, we'll leave the capital behind and begin a 1.5-hour journey westward. Our first destination will be Cerro Verde National Park, a privileged enclave in the middle of the tropical forest. You'll love it!

Upon arrival, we'll begin a walk along an interpretive trail to the Cerro Verde viewpoint. There, we'll make several strategic stops until the Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes rise imposingly before our eyes. Did you know that Izalco was called the Lighthouse of the Pacific because of its intense activity at night? It could even be seen from the sea!

We'll begin our descent from the viewpoint and head towards Lake Coatepeque. Once ready, we'll embark on a 15-minute boat ride to reach the hot springs. We'll anchor and give you about 45 minutes of free time to take a well-deserved dip.

Then, we'll return to the boat and head to a restaurant on the shores of Lake Coatepeque, where we'll enjoy a lunch of meat or fish, rice, pupusas, beans, yuca, salad, fruit, and juice. Perfect for refuelling!

We'll continue our day trip to the city of Santa Ana, an architectural gem in the west of the country, which we'll reach in approximately 45 minutes. We'll take a 1.5-hour walking tour to learn about its history. We'll pass through Libertad Park, admiring the Cathedral of Santa Ana, and, if it's open, we'll go inside the temple.

The Santa Ana National Theatre will then welcome us with its combination of European styles, symbolising the golden age of coffee in 1910. Finally, we'll pass by the old Municipal Palace and its surrounding streets, full of small cafés and craft shops.

Finally, we'll begin the journey back to San Salvador, where we'll drop you off at your hotel after a total of 12 hours.
