Seodaemun Prison, Dilkusha + Tapgol Park Tour

  • 4 reviews | 40 travellers
Awesome. Super good. Our guide is a wonderful woman. She patiently explained everything and adapted the tour to suit us since we had booked another one for the afternoon. We saw so much, and with all the explanations, it was unbeatable. The food at the market was superb, and the ladies who served us were super friendly. I would definitely go back. Thank you so much for everything. 11/10.

Tour Details

Do you love history? In that case, we'll meet at the indicated time at exit 5 of the Dongnimmun Station to kick off this tour of Seoul. Throughout the tour, you'll learn about the impact of colonialism and how South Korea has adapted to modern times.

We'll begin our route visiting the Saedaemun Prison, a fundamental spot to understand South Korea's fight for independence. Built during the Japanese occupation, this prison held numerous anti-colonial activists. It could hold up to 500 people! Here, we'll walk past the cells and sombre corridors as we get to know its history.

Next, we'll walk to the Dongnimmun Arch, better known as Independence Gate. Don't forget to snap a photo!

After learning about the history of this monument, we'll walk to Dilkusha, the historic home of Albert Taylor, an American journalist who played a very important role in the South Korean independence movement. Did you know that this place has become a symbol of resilience and international cooperation? We'll tell you why!

Next, we'll take the metro to Tapgol Park. It was here in 1919 that the first cries for independence rang out, sparking a national uprising that would ultimately lead to South Korea's freedom.

After 3.5 hours in total, we'll finish this tour of Seoul at the Tapgol Park.
