Tour Details

At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, ready to begin this underground tour of Toledo. We’ll set off to uncover a lesser-known side of the City of the Three Cultures, exploring hidden spaces beneath its historic streets.

Our first stop will be the Cenizal Arab Baths, where we’ll delve into Toledo’s Muslim past and discover what daily life was like in the Middle Ages. As we walk through this former hammam, you’ll learn about its layout and the ingenious heating system, known as the hypocaust, used to maintain warm temperatures.

Next, we’ll visit the Caballel Arab Baths, another remarkable example of Islamic heritage preserved below the city. Here, we’ll continue exploring the social and cultural role of these bathing spaces in medieval Toledo.

We’ll then head to the Pozo del Salvador, an 11th-century cistern that once belonged to a mosque located on the grounds now occupied by the Church of El Salvador. This hidden structure offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s layered religious history.

Our route continues to the Casa del Judío, an underground space that reflects Toledo’s Jewish heritage and the coexistence of cultures that shaped the city for centuries.

Finally, we’ll step even further back in time with a visit to the Roman Baths of Toledo, located near the Cathedral. Discovered as recently as 1986, this archaeological site reveals how people lived on the banks of the Tagus River during Roman times.

After approximately 2 hours exploring these remarkable subterranean spaces, we’ll conclude the tour in Plaza de Zocodover, right in the heart of Toledo’s historic center.

Please Note

Please keep in mind that this underground tour doesn't take place entirely below street level. Since the various sites we’ll visit aren't physically connected to each other, we will need to head back up to the surface to move from one spot to the next.

The walking sections outdoors between these underground spaces are also guided, so you won't miss any of the history along the way!
