Oplontis Private Guided Tour

At the selected time, we'll meet at the entrance of the villa of Oplontis to begin a guided tour of this vast palace complex in Torre Annunziata. Let's travel back to the times of the Ancient Roman Empire!

Our tour of the villa of Oplontis will begin with a reminder of how the effects of the Vesuvius eruption of 79 A.D. were felt here. Although Herculaneum and Pompeii were two of the most affected places, they certainly weren't the only ones. Several excavations at Torre Annunziata have brought to light perfectly preserved mansions that reveal what life was like during that period.

Next on the tour, we'll enter the northern garden of the villa of Oplontis and then access the spa area, where we'll find ancient frescoes. We'll discuss the symbolism behind these paintings as we head off to explore more of the mansion's rooms - there're 90 of them!

We'll visit the kitchens, bathrooms, servants' quarters, salons, and many other rooms of this residence. As we admire all these places we'll go over the theories regarding Oplontis: is it true that its owner was Poppea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero? Was the house under construction when Vesuvius erupted? Let's learn all about it!

After a two-hour tour, we'll end the guided tour and bid farewell inside the villa of Oplontis. If you wish, you can stay longer and continue to explore the complex at your own leisure.
