Guided Tour of Valencia and the Silk Exchange
Guided Tour of Valencia and the Silk Exchange
At the indicated time, we'll start our guided walk through the old town of Valencia in the Plaza de los Fueros, in front of the Serranos Towers. Did you know that this bastion of medieval origin housed several works of art from the Prado Museum during the Spanish Civil War? You'll hear all about this, and other fascinating facts about the towers, before we head to the elegant Plaza de San Lorenzo square, where we will observe the splendid exterior decoration of the Valencian Courts.
Our next stop is at the Plaza de Manises square, opposite the headquarters of the local government. You will hear some interesting stories about this institution as we walk to the nearby Plaza de la Virgen square. Here, we will admire the architecture of the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados church and the rear side of Valencia cathedral. You will also admire the famous Miguelete bell tower.
Later, we will walk to the impressive Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange). Inside this medieval, Gothic building, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, we will learn all about the history of Valencia in the 15th and 16th centuries. This period was a great commercial heyday for the city and was particularly reflected in this market.
Our tour finishes in the surroundings of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento square. In this area of the city, we will see monuments such as the Bull Ring or the Estación del Norte train station, a beautiful modernist-style building.
