Würzburg Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the House of the Falcon, home to the city's Tourist Information Office. After learning about the history of this unique building, which survived the bombings of 1945, we'll begin this free tour of Würzburg.
Our first stop will be Mary's Chapel, a striking 14th-century Gothic church. Inside, we'll talk about the Virgin Mary and the story of the immaculate conception.
From there, we'll stroll towards the Main River, passing by Germany's oldest wine bar. This historic spot was once a secret gathering place where rebellious peasants plotted their daring attack on Marienberg Fortress. Interesting, right?
When we arrive at the riverbank, we'll be treated to one of the most breathtaking views of Würzburg: the fortress on the hill, the Old Bridge with its statues, and the picturesque chapel in the distance. Be sure to snap some photos!
Next, we'll step onto the Old Bridge itself to discover its history and admire the sculptures that make it such an iconic symbol of the city. Here, we'll be sure to see some locals enjoying a glass of wine, the perfect opportunity to learn about the Franconian wine region.
We'll then continue to Würzburg's two great bishop churches, focusing especially on St. Kilian's Cathedral, the fourth-largest Romanesque cathedral in Germany. As we keep walking, we'll come across one of the city's hidden gems, a charming garden where locals in love still come to seek guidance from a medieval poet.
Finally, after a total of 1.5 hours, we'll end our tour outside the magnificent Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
