Day Trip Details

At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in central Iquitos to board a bus that will take us to Nauta, a charming town in the Loreto province.

After a two-hour drive, we’ll leave the vehicle to take a tour around this town in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, where we’ll see the main square and surrounding streets, full of fascinating culture and tradition.

Around 8 am, we’ll head to the port to board a boat that will take us along two of the most well-known rivers in the area: the Marañón River and the Ucayali River. Did you know that together they form the source of the Amazon River?

During this relaxing ride, we might spot a sloth clinging to the massive rainforest trees or a colorful bird flying across the Amazon sky. With some luck, we may even see gray and pink dolphins navigating the waters.

We’ll return to land and head toward the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve for a hiking route. Before we know it, we’ll have entered a protected area of over 20,000 square kilometers, the fourth largest in South America. Within it are around 208 villages from 56 indigenous communities that live off the reserve’s natural resources.

During the rainy season, you might encounter species of lizards, taricayas, and charapas. In the warmer months, we’ll have the chance to observe birds, monkeys, and amphibians, all in their natural habitat. We’ll also admire the giant trees surrounding the area and be amazed by their lushness.

After walking through the Pacaya Samiria Reserve and taking in all its natural beauty, we’ll return to the boat. Feeling hungry? We’ll recharge our energy on board with a delicious meal. This lunch features a traditional regional dish called “Juane,” made with a mix of chicken, egg, olives, and specially prepared rice, all wrapped in a green bijao leaf. We’ll also enjoy various salads, fruits, and mineral water.

Once our appetite is satisfied and we’ve enjoyed the scenery from the boat, we’ll take part in a very special activity: traditional fishing. We’ll show you the techniques used locally to catch piranhas and other native species in the reserve’s blackwater lagoons.

Finally, we’ll return to the dock to board the bus back to Iquitos. After 13 to 14 hours of this day trip, we’ll drop you off at your hotel.
