On our free tour of the mysteries and legends of Palencia, we'll share enigmas like Cristo del Otero, learn about the Morenilla, and discover the miracle well of the Cathedral. It'll be a fascinating tour from start to finish!

Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet in front of the Monument to the University on the Plaza de San Pablo. From this location, we'll start our free mysteries and legends tour of Palencia, a city that hides creepy secrets.

Just a few steps away, we'll stop in front of the Church of San Pablo, a Gothic-style church, just a preamble of the secrets that we are about to discover. We'll discover the Morenilla and the Virgen de la Calle, whose serene facade has witnessed unexplainable miracles and devotions. We'll unravel the origin of its nickname and the passion it inspired in many devotees.

Then, we'll stroll along the streets where the legendary Cid Campeador possibly walked and see a unique Christ. Legend says his nails and hair grow... Could it be a sign of the divine or a dark omen? Keep your eyes peeled, because we'll see a braid that, according to tradition, helps find love if you pull on it with faith.

Afterward, we'll get lost among the monuments of Palencia as we tell you about the Cristo del Otero. This chilling story of Pan y Quesillo, and the famous crimen del ermitaño (hermit crime), tells the story of an echo that still seems to sound among the stones of Palencia's old town.

You'll see some dense shadows as we evoke Don Juan Tenorio and his conquest of Margarita la Tornera, a story that blends the ghostly and the romantic.

Our free walking tour will take us to the well of the Palencia Cathedral, whose waters have mysterious, healing properties. Lastly, we'll relive the tragedy of the heir of Castilla, whose death stained the banks of the Carrión River with mourning and left a trail of mystery.

Among squares, old markets, and enigmatic corners, we'll reach the Calle Mayor, where we'll say our goodbyes to the hidden side of Palencia after 1.5 hours.
