El Chato Ranch Giant Tortoise Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz Island to start the tour. Are you ready for this exciting adventure? Once we're all gathered, we'll set off towards the higher part of the island.
Our first stop will be at Los Gemelos, two craters formed by the collapse of the surface of giant air chambers. Here, we'll have the opportunity to see the famous Escalesia Forest, a plant endemic to the Galápagos and one of the favourite habitats of Darwin's finches. We'll also be able to observe birds such as the Mary's Canary and the Wren.
Next, we'll arrive at the El Chato Ranch, a private ranch where giant tortoises live in their natural habitat. We'll walk along green trails where we'll encounter these peculiar reptiles that can grow up to a metre and a half long (4 ft 11 in) and weigh more than 250 kg (551 lbs). We'll see how they eat and wander around this enormous space in search of the coolest and most humid areas. To refuel, we'll enjoy a delicious country snack that includes a hot drink.
Nearby, we'll walk to the famous lava tunnels of Santa Cruz Island. Did you know that these tunnels were once rivers through which hot lava flowed? We'll venture into these natural formations to step back in time as we walk through their passageways and nooks and crannies.
After 3 hours of enjoying the Galápagos' unspoilt nature, we'll drop you back at your hotel in Santa Cruz.
