Mythological Athens Free Tour
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet near the statue of Theseus, the perfect starting point for diving into the mythological history of Athens. Here we'll explore Theseus's role as the city's founding hero and his deep connection to Athens, all while taking in the views of the ancient Agora.
We'll begin our circuit of the Acropolis along Apostolou Pavlou Street, a pleasant walkway with spectacular panoramic views. From a vantage point, we'll observe the temples of the Acropolis while exploring the fundamental myths: the birth of Athena and her rivalry with Poseidon for the protection of the city.
We'll then continue toward the sanctuary of Pan, hidden among the rocks, passing by the Hill of Philopappos and the ancient Klepsydra fountain. From there, we'll head to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, from which we'll also be able to see the Philopappos Monument.
We'll then descend toward the Theatre of Dionysus, where we'll discover the origins of Greek theatre and its deep connection to myth, the gods, and tragedy. We'll continue past the Acropolis Museum to the Arch of Hadrian, whose inscription references Theseus and the identity of the city itself.
Finally, we'll make our way toward the Panathenaic Stadium, crossing through the National Garden. Here, we'll decide as a group whether to wrap up the tour at the stadium or continue through Syntagma.
We'll say our goodbyes after a total of 2 hours.
