Famagusta and Kyrenia Trip
Famagusta and Kerynia Trip
Between 8:30 am and 8:55 am we will collect you from your hotel in Ayia Napa before heading to one of the most beautiful locations on the island of Cyprus. The ghost town of Varosha was abandoned in 1974, following the Turkish invasion of the island. The uninhabited streets, buildings, and shops have remained as they were back in the 1970s. You will learn all about the tragic history of this period from our professional guide.
We then continue our tour at the nearby coastal city of Famagusta which was the most important gateway to the island during the medieval period. You will encounter the elegant Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, where the guide will tell you the story behind the ruined dilapidated towers.
From Famagusta, we then head north, passing through the stunning landscapes of the Kyrenia Mountain range until we arrive at our next stop, the Bellapais Abbey (ticket not included). Here you will learn all about the legend of a group of 13th-century monks.
Only 15 minutes away from the abbey, we will reach the picturesque coastal town of Kyrenia. The majestic seafront watchtowers and forts hint at the strategic importance of this location in bygone times. You will then have an hour of your own free time to take lunch and stroll through the streets of the old town center, at your own pace.
After having lunch, we will finally return to Ayia Napa.
