Tour Details

They say there's truth in the old tales—and that sunset is the perfect time to discover the legends of the meigas, or Galician witches. We'll find out for ourselves as we meet at the indicated time under the arches of the Paseo Ribeira, just in front of Baiona's Tourist Office.

As night begins to fall, we'll wander through the coastal town in the province of Pontevedra, uncovering some of its most haunting mysteries. Baiona, as we'll learn, was once ravaged by the Black Plague. It's also said to have witnessed the eerie procession of souls known as the Santa Compaña.

But how did mere mortals protect themselves from such dark omens? We'll climb to the legendary Cruceiro da Trinidade, where we'll learn about the protective power of these ancient stone crosses. Along the way, we'll explore the myths of the mouros and mouras, and meet mischievous Galician creatures known as trasnos. We'll also unravel the story of Santa Liberata—did you know this Baiona-born martyr is believed to have been the first woman ever crucified?

Our free walking tour continues with the curious case of Pedro Álvarez de Soutomaior, also known as Pedro Madruga, who some believe may have actually been…Christopher Columbus? That's just one of the fascinating tales you'll hear on this tour.

We'll also stroll near Mount Boi, beside the castle of Monterreal, where the story of a mysterious prince in an iron mask awaits.

After 1.5 hours of legends, myths, and local lore, we'll return to our starting point to conclude this unforgettable journey through the shadows of Baiona.
