Serra da Calçada Hike
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Mines and Metal Museum to start our trip, by car, from Belo Horizonte to Serra da Calçada. This area is part of the Serra do Espinhaço Natural Monument, a mountain range declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
On the way, we will make a brief stop so you can buy a coffee. Then, after about an hour's drive, we'll arrive at the starting point of our hiking route through the Serra da Calçada. From here, we'll make a route of about 8 km (5 mi) in total, which will take us through a path between native species such as canela-de-ema, siempreviva, or lobeira.
After 1.5 hours of walking uphill, we'll reach the main viewpoint. From here, we'll observe the impressive views of the Serra do Rola-Moça State Park and the natural environment that surrounds Nova Lima. Plus, we'll also see an ancient stone construction known as the Brumadinho Fort, a vestige of the Gold Cycle era.
During a 30-minute break, we'll take the opportunity to recharge our batteries with a snack that includes an energy bar, a cupcake, a fruit cream, juice, and coconut water, as we enjoy the scenery and take some pictures. We'll then make our way back along the same route, completing the descent in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Back in the vehicle, we'll head to the charming district of Macacos to stop at the famous Bar do Marcinho, very popular with hikers and locals. Here, you can have lunch or a drink if you'd like.
Then, after 2 hours at Bar do Maricho, we'll return to Belo Horizonte, arriving about 8 hours later.
