Berlin Car Culture Tour

  • 2 reviews | 10 travellers
We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour, a visit in which we saw and learned a lot about German automotive history and, of course, we were able to enjoy the company of MARTIN, our guide. It was a real pleasure to be able to share your great knowledge of this sector with us in such a professional manner. We were very comfortable and we achieved the objective we were looking for. Thank you very much for everything.

Berlin Automobile History & Culture Tour

At the indicated time, we’ll meet at the entrance of Espresso House at Potsdamer Platz 10. Located near the site where the first automobile patent was issued, and under Europe’s first-ever traffic lights, this is the perfect place to begin our tour.

Here, we’ll delve into the origins of the automobile, its swift rise to prominence, and how Potsdamer Platz became Germany's busiest intersection in the 1920s. You’ll also hear how the area was devastated during WWII bombings, a stark reminder of Berlin’s turbulent past.

Fast-forwarding 140 years into the future, we'll visit a cutting-edge showroom showcasing the future prospects of automotive technology. Step inside the cars of the future and learn about the road to electrification. From autonomous driving to car-sharing, and the rise of new Asian car brands, we’ll ponder whether Germany is still the leader in automotive innovation.

Next, we'll have a 20-minute break before we head to the outskirts of the city to discover the AVUS, the ruins of a once legendary racetrack and Germany's first motorway. This track was home to the legendary Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union cars of the 1930s, which raced at breakneck speeds of over 350 km/h (217 mph). We’ll also learn about how the Nazis used motor racing for propaganda.

Lastly, we'll visit an old tram workshop, now a treasure trove of classic cars. Marvel at rare, timeless automobiles that are no longer in production, each one more priceless than the last. An expert will guide us through this remarkable collection, showcasing iconic cars spanning from the early 20th century to the present day.

Finally, after 4 hours of immersion in Berlin’s rich automotive history and culture, we’ll conclude the tour at Beusselstraße S-Bahn Station.
