Birmingham Civil Rights Tour
Birmingham Civil Rights Tour
We'll meet at 9:45 am in front of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to start this tour to discover what the struggle for fundamental rights for black people in this southern state was like.
We'll spend 3 hours, reviewing some of the most important milestones the city of Birmingham witnessed. We'll learn about the founding of the Alabama Christian Human Rights Movement, the role of the Ku Klux Klan, and the creation of a number of organisations that fought for power, control and destiny in Alabama's largest city.
Throughout the tour, we'll also talk about the politician Bull Connor and the minister and activist Fred Shuttlesworth, one of the leading voices in the fight against racial segregation in Birmingham.
After having walked the streets where the protesters of this movement walked, we'll return to the meeting point, where the tour will end at 12:45 pm.
