Santo Domingo Day Trip

Between 9 am and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Boca Chica and set off towards the historic capital of the Dominican Republic.

Our day trip to Santo Domingo will begin with a visit to the Three Eyes National Park, where we'll see its famous freshwater lake and cave. Then, we'll pass by the Columbus Lighthouse, where the remains of Christopher Columbus are said to lie.

After taking a short break in front of the National Palace to admire its neoclassical façade, we'll head to a local restaurant for a delicious buffet lunch of Dominican delicacies. Our lunch will include typical dishes such as rice, meat stews and beans.

Once we've had lunch, we'll then take a walking tour of the beautiful colonial area of Santo Domingo. During the tour we'll head inside the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, which was the first cathedral built in the Americas. We'll also go to the Plaza de España to see its terraces, from which we'll look out at an incredible view of the Ozama River and the famous Alcázar de Colón. In addition, we'll head inside this monument to see more of its beauty.

The tour of the colonial area will continue towards the Via de Las Damas, which was the first street built in Santo Domingo. On this long avenue we'll find the National Pantheon, where some of the remains of the country's most illustrious figures lie. We'll also head inside this monument. Afterwards, we'll observe the façade of the Jesuit Church, which dates back to the early 18th century.

We'll then stroll through the lively streets of the colonial centre and see painting exhibitions, numerous cafes and craft stalls and the Larimar and Amber shop-workshop. When we get to this last spot, we'll learn all about the importance of these semi-precious stones in the Dominican Republic. Afterwards, we'll head towards the boardwalk to round off our day with a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea from the capital.

It'll then be time to start our return journey to Boca Chica. We should arrive back at your hotel at around 5 pm.

Temporary closures

The Alcazar de Colon will remain closed for remodelling works until further notice. During this time, we'll substitute this part of the visit with a tour of the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales), one of the main Cultural Monuments of Dominican History.
