Visit the Atomium, a Symbol of Brussels

Located north of the Belgian capital, next to the Laeken Park, the Atomium is the most iconic and visited monument in Brussels.

With your tickets to the Atomium, you'll visit this symbol of the city with an audio guide in English, which will tell you all the secrets of this large structure standing at 335 ft (102 m) tall.

If you have ever wondered what's inside the Atomium, now's the moment to find out! From one of its pillars, you'll climb up the mechanical stairs to the monument's central ball.  Inside, you'll find a permanent exhibition where you'll learn the history of the construction of the Atomium.

Plus, with your ticket, you'll visit the temporary exhibition inside the monument. You'll also be able to access the scenic viewpoint of the Atomium, located on the upper sphere. From this point, located on its cusp, you'll admire the magnificent 360° views of the Laeken Park, along with the Mini-Europe Park and the King Baudouin Stadium.

The tour with an audio guide of the Atomium lasts 1 to 1.5 hours, although you can stay inside for as long as you want.

History of the Atomium

The Atomium, an acronym that combines the words atom and aluminum, was built for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair.

This colossal structure represents nine atoms of an iron crystal magnified 165 trillion times. The monument was designed by the Belgian engineer André Waterkeyn, whose objective was to make the Atomium a symbol of the scientific progress of the mid-20th century.

Its nine spheres, connected by escalator tubes, are clad in stainless steel to withstand inclement weather.

With over 60000 yearly visits, the Atomium is currently the most-visited monument in Belgium.
