Gödöllö Palace Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the meeting point in central Budapest for a comfortable 30-minute drive in a north-easterly direction. Upon arrival at the Gödöllö Royal Palace, we'll find ourselves in front of one of the most important royal residences in Hungary.
Once there, we'll take a guided tour of the palace, a masterpiece of the baroque style built in the 18th century by the nobleman Antal Grassalkovich. We'll walk through its elegantly restored halls, where every detail tells us about the splendour of the Hungarian nobility.
During the visit to the palace, we'll learn about the private life of Queen Elisabeth and Franz Joseph, Hungarian king between 1867 and 1916. The guide will try to solve the mysteries, show the hidden doors and bring to light the lovers that the royal couple had during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
One of the most captivating aspects of the visit will be to discover the connection that Empress Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sissi, had with this palace. It was her favourite refuge away from the formalities of the Viennese court, and even today her spirit can still be felt in the gardens and rooms she frequented. Did you know that Sissi received Gödöllö Palace as a gift when she was crowned Queen of Hungary in 1867?
Finally, we'll return to the centre of Budapest, and we'll say our goodbyes after 3 or 3.5 hours in total.
