Buenos Aires Political Tour
Tour Options
During the booking process, you can choose between the following options. Both last 2 hours and include a walking tour with an English-speaking guide:
Historical Tour
We'll meet at the designated time at the Santo Domingo Convent to begin this walking tour of the history of Buenos Aires, where you'll travel back in time to the Colonial period.
From here, we'll walk along the Calle Defensa to the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco de Asís and the famous Illuminated Block. Here, we'll explore the underground tunnels that connected the historical buildings and were used for smuggling during the Colonial period.
Our next stop will be the stunning Buenos Aires City Legislature, where we'll discover the history of Eva Perón, one of the country's most iconic figures. Then, we'll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, where we'll discuss the figure of Pope Francis and General San Martín, whose mausoleum is found in this church.
Finally, we'll conclude the tour at the emblematic Plaza de Mayo, the center of the country's most important political events. In front of the Casa Rosada, the "Pink House," we'll tell you about the Madres de Plaza de Mayo (Mothers of Plaza de Mayo), the dictatorship, and Argentina today.
- Schedule: please note that this tour only takes place on Wednesdays.
Military History Tour
If you choose this option, we'll meet at the Pirámide de Mayo to start this tour focused on the Argentine dictatorship and the struggle for human rights.
We'll begin witnessing the renowned Ronda de las Madres in Plaza de Mayo, a peaceful protest that first took place at this very spot in 1977. For 30 minutes, we'll explain the origin of this movement and how these women challenged the regime by demanding that their disappeared children be found alive. This act of resistance remains in the country's memory!
Afterward, we'll head to the Casa de las Madres in Plaza de Mayo, located close to the National Congress of Argentina. Here, we'll learn more about the fundamental role that the Mothers played in the search for truth and memory.
To finish, we'll visit the former clandestine detention center, Virrey Cevallos. For 40 minutes, we'll explore this site and reflect on the events that marked this dark period in Argentine history.
- Schedule: please note that this tour only takes place on Thursdays.
