With more than 2,000 years of history, the Cardiff castle is an absolute must-see in Wales. Live its long history, from Roman origins to its impressive gothic transformation.
Cardiff Castle Ticket
Cardiff Castle is one of the most important historic and folkloric sites in Wales. Its location in the very centre of Cardiff has made it a reference point for visitors and locals alike.
The first thing that will strike you are its walls. Covered with sculptures of exotic and wild animals, they'll welcome and draw you into this special place. From the Sophia and Pontcanna gardens to the relics from the middle ages, and the Roman walls, each moment in the castle reveals a little slice of its 2,000-year history.
The wealth of underground tunnels, used as air raid shelters in the Second World War, always draw the attention of visitors. And as you pass through the bunks, kitchens and hospitals which were installed there, you'll be able to listen to the music and warnings that the soldiers heard way back when - getting a first-hand experience of surviving an air raid.
One of the most striking halls is, without doubt, the Arab bedroom. With extravagant, ornamental, decoration and a hand-gilded gold leaf ceiling, it's a room that certainly stands out among the others!
"Firing Line" Museum
One of the latest developments is the "Firing Line" Museum, entry to which is included. This exposition celebrates the military history of Wales in a fun and entertaining way. With a costume area, where the little ones can try authentic garb, there are plenty of interactive exhibitions (such as portable radios) where you can get to know the history of the area a little better.
