Kaya Kinondo Forest Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the sacred forest of Kaya Kinondo, a unique place where locals retreat to communicate with their ancestors through prayers and offerings. Are you ready for a day filled with nature and culture?
First, we'll make a quick stop at Kaya Kinondo's Visitors Information Center to give you a 15-minute introduction to the forest and what you'll see during our tour. Did you know that Kaya means home or village? This forest was a fortified settlement founded by the Digo-Mijikenda people more than 600 years ago. You'll be surprised by their rich history!
Next, we'll start our hiking tour of about 50 minutes, where we'll learn about the forest's flora and fauna, along with the sacred activities that take place in this natural site. You'll also have the chance to experience a cultural performance and witness an ancestral healing ritual with a healer in the main forest clearing. Dive into the region's oldest traditions with this unforgettable event!
After exploring the forest, we'll head toward a traditional village. Here, we'll spend an hour learning about their lifestyle and modes of subsistence. As well as that, we'll watch a traditional dance performance and enjoy a tasting of African herbal tea.
Finally, after this enriching experience, we'll conclude this 4-hour activity.
