Mapimí & Ojuela Day Trip
Mapimí & Ojuela Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Durango and set off for Mapimí, which is one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos (Magic Towns). When we arrive, you'll have 1 hour of free time to have some breakfast.
We'll then head to the Benito Juárez Museum, which was once the home of the "Benemérito de las Américas" during the period of the itinerant Republic. Inside, we'll see his room, as well as documents, utensils and paintings of the famous indigenous politician.
On our way out, we'll pass by the house where the revolutionary priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla once stayed. We'll also see the Church of Santiago Apóstol, a beautiful religious building with Baroque and Mudejar details dating back to the 18th century.
Afterwards, we'll get back on the bus and drive for a few minutes to the abandoned village of Ojuela. We'll cross the spectacular suspension bridge, which was used to transport minerals from the Santa Rita mine. This mine, which was flooded in the mid 20th century, was discovered in 1598 by Spanish conquistadors. We'll discuss some fun facts about the history of this area during a guided tour.
At the end of the tour, you'll have 1 hour of free time to have lunch before we return to Durango. Our estimated arrival time back at your hotel in Durango 12 hours later.
