Sierra de Órganos & Nombre de Dios Day Trip
Sierra de Órganos & Nombre de Dios Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Durango and head for the Sierra de Órganos National Park. When we arrive at this breathtaking spot in the Sierra Madre Occidental, you'll be surprised to see its distinctive magmatic rock formations. Take a closer look and see if you can make out any figures in these extraordinary monoliths!
In addition, we'll go through forests of oak, cedar, prickly pear and cactus trees among which hares, badgers, and white-tailed deer hide. We'll then set off for the next destination of the day.
Our next stop is the Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) of Nombre de Dios, whose name is due to it being the first place where Franciscans held a mass in the 'name of God'. We'll visit the ex-convent of San Francisco, a 16th-century religious building with an ornate façade, Ionic columns and details of palms in mortar. Afterwards, we'll head inside the El Malpaís mezcalería to drink a local mezcal liquor accompanied by bread and cheese.
We'll visit part of the Silver Route, or the Royal Road of Interior Land. This ancient trading route stretches out for almost 1,600 miles (2,560 kilometres) and has been declared a World Heritage Site. Close by, we'll see the natural site of El Cuevón, where we'll also glimpse golden eagles. This spot, as well as the surroundings of the Sierra de Órganos, was the filming location for Caveman, starring Ringo Starr.
Our day trip will end upon our arrival back at your hotel in Durango 6 hours later.
