Discover all the secrets of San Lorenzo de Escorial with this fantastic guided tour of the magnificent monastery and the beautiful municipality where it is located.
El Escorial Complete Tour
At 11 am, we will begin this amazing walking tour of San Lorenzo de El Escorial in the elegant Plaza de la Constitución square, in front of the town hall. During the stroll, we will learn about the history of some of the most important monuments of the old town, such as the Casa del Alcalde Mayor or the Real Coliseo Carlos III, a picturesque theater dating from the Enlightenment.
Nearby, we will encounter the picturesque Prince's Gardens where we will enjoy the intoxicating aroma of its plants while hearing about the youth of King Charles IV.
After the tour of the town and its gardens, we will take a guided tour of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Built in the 16th century, this magnificent building is considered to be the eighth wonder of the world. You will learn why Philip II chose its location at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama as you tour the basilica, the Battle Room, the pantheon, the palatial rooms, and other essential places in the monument. We will also visit the famous library of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, whose volumes were gathered by Philip II (the first ones were bought by his father, Emperor Charles V), to expand his humanistic knowledge.
At 2 pm, we will finish the guided tour at the entrance to the monastery.
