It was an incredible place with many beautiful views. The guide was friendly, the volcanoes were excellent, and the lake was highly recommended.

Activity Details

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to make our way to the path where we'll start this hiking route to the Santa Ana Volcano, at an altitude of over 2,000 m (6,561 ft).

Upon arrival at the start of the trail, we'll tie up our laces and start our uphill hike. We'll walk through coffee plantations and cloud forests, which are home to hundreds of wild animals in the area.

When we reach a higher altitude, the landscape will transform and we'll start to see more dark-coloured terrain. We'll see the fossilised lava flows, which turn the landscape into a lunar landscape. Between sulphur-tinged rocks and the occasional fumaroles that give off a particular smell, we'll reach the summit.

In about 2 hours, we'll reach the summit and, as a reward, the crater will reveal its lagoon of emerald green waters, an acidic elixir of coppery minerals. Here, we'll enjoy the feeling of satisfaction, admiring the landscape of the valley while we tell you about its epic eruptions.

We'll then begin our descent, which will take another 2 hours. Back in the vehicle, we'll take a 40-minute drive to the viewpoint of the Coatepeque Caldera, where we'll find the Octava Maravilla restaurant. Upon arrival, you'll have 2 hours of free time to enjoy this natural balcony suspended over the ancient caldera filled with greenish waters.

Here, under the shadow of the trees, you'll be able to eat your lunch—it will be well deserved! Finally, after 10 hours in total, we'll bring this adventure to an end back at your hotel.
